“If Ganges is the mother, Himalayas is the father. One nurtures and nourishes, the other provides and protects.”
The Himalayas have been always fascinated me and I always loved them for their beauty, height and there is something which attracts towards it, some unnamed force or power. It’s great to spend some time, doing things that you like. Kedarkantha is a mountain peak of Himalayas in Uttrakhand at an altitude of 12,500ft. The trek starts from sankri village and leads to a great adventure in the middle of Himalayas.
The difficulty level of the trek is moderate to difficult in winters, the beauty of the place is worth visiting. I feel the beauty of the place enhances in winters when the whole place is covered with snow and those snow cladded peaks took my heart away.
It takes 3-4 days to complete the trek and it differs from agency to agency. The total distance covered during the trek is 30km and sankri is the Base camp.
Always pack with your necessities and carry your woollen clothes as the place in winters freezes. The temperature ranges from 12 degrees Celsius to 5 degree celsius.

The journey to Kedarkantha begins from Dehradun it took me 7-8 hours to reach Sankri, the view throughout the way was just stunning, you can even stop in between and have tea and snacks. I have reached a beautiful camping destination in the evening. In the evening I have explored the nearby places and had a good time and excited for the next day.
On the next day, I headed towards Juda Ka Talab at an altitude of 9150ft. It is a 4km journey and took 4-5 hours to reach. The beauty of the pond was mesmerizing and a great place to sit and gaze around, it was surrounded by Oak and maple trees. I must say that it is the most beautiful camping destination. Next morning I have ascended towards Kedarkantha Base camp at a height of 11250ft, it took 2.5 hours to complete. I passed through the dense forest of Oak trees and spotted some sphered huts which were equally joyful.
Here comes the final part of the trek from Kedarkantha base camp to Kedarkantha peak, it is 6km and takes 7 hours to reach. The journey was long but exciting. Once I have reached the peak the view from the top was spell-bounding and also I spotted other peaks like such as rupin range, bura range, kalang, and others.after enjoying the view of mountains I started heading back to Sankri village passing through Hargaon village with beautiful pine trees and snowy path.
It was such a memorable experience. Kedarkantha trek in winters is no less than heaven on earth. The beauty of place increases in winters and will take your heart away.
