Hadimba Devi temple is dedicated to Hadimba Devi. Hadimba Devi temple is one of the central attractions of Manali. It is popularly known as Dhungiri temple. It was built in 1553. It is constructed over a huge rock. It is worshipped as a representation of Hidimba. The construction of this temple is also extraordinary. This temple consists of four wooden storeys.
The interior of the temple is magnificent. The walls are decorated only with mud impressions, figurines of goddesses, animals, and stones, etc. The doors are made of complex carved wood, and the roof is clad in metal.
It is believed that the brother of Hadimba who ruled over this region was a terror to all. Once Pandavas were passing through the region when Bhima fell in love with Hadimba.
Being requested by the people Bhima killed the demon king. Bhima then married Hadimba and stayed there for a year. Hadimba gave birth to a courageous son named Ghatotkachh. After then Bhima left the region. Once Ghatotkachh came to age he was made the king and Hadimba left for the Himalayas. Through great penance, she was crowned the glory of being a goddess.
